Trying to get EQ Live to work on a MBP

28 Jun

So… Some great older news is that EverQuest went free to play!
But how do you get it to run if you arent on Windowz?

One option is cross over. The package costs USD 40-60 though. They have a 14 day trial and the program requires you to have a windows intaller. Im not so well versed on how to use it and I would rather not mess with having windows installed. I dont have the space, I dont want to run a partition, and a few friends running boot camp have had to reformat. The same errors may not apply to cross over, but I would rather use wine.

The wine HQ page gave me a clue. The last update they had (april 2012) said that EQ live runs fine using wine as long as you install the dx9 via wine tricks when setting up the preferences for the prefix. Note however that the users had ubuntu, unix, and fedora. No Mac OS listed in test files. Not great since i dont know for sure if it works, but not bad since it hasn’t been rated as garbage.

After installing direct x 9 I still got a “Error: Generic Error Occured” mesage when i would load it up. So i caved in and decided to look at cross over. I looked up if it could run EQ and voila, instructions on how to get the launcher running on unix via wine bottler or wine tricks.

So you need :

  • install it into Programfiles/Sony Online Entertainment/Installed Games/EverQuest
  • DX9 (Direct x 9)
  • ActiveX
  • MSIE 7+ (MicroSoft Internet Explorer)
  • Flash

After loading up a new preference set with this, the DX updater ran and updated dx11. It installed into my wine app support folder in library though.;tips=1

However, i am still having difficulty with getting the launcher to run via flash. RL is getting a bit busy so i will have to set this aside for a while. It has been done, so i know it can be. Unfortunately I have not found a tutorial on it.

I hope this helps anyone trying to get it to run, and if you get farther than i did please let me know!

This post here is a bit of a formality since this content is more appropriate for my hobby/diy/food blog. If you want to learn more about the 30 days of Creativity initiative click through the link.

It would be great if you could join me too! Just pledge @createstuff on twitter and tag your posts (it seems like its chiefly organizing through twitter but im sure the group has accounts elsewhere) #30DoC.

Raised bed planting (via ECOhanaHI)

18 Sep

I want to do something like this when the dust settles after my move =)

Raised bed planting A raised bed planter box is a convenient way for us to grow healthy edibles without (we rent) digging up too much dirt. As we scavenge for most of the materials for the planter, we can start our seeds. Here, we’ve started- pak choi, cherry tomatoes, yellow bell pepper, squash, dill, and a mesclun mix in jiffy peat pots. Found watering them with the spray bottle was time overkill. Now the seedlings are resting in an inch of water in a shallow tupp … Read More

Never ending midterms, school requirements, and the logistics of moving homes has taken over my life.

I’l be un-silent soon enough, but until then I wont be blogging.

30 Days of Creativity and Academic Readings

29 Jun
Day 30

Image by Mykl Roventine via Flickr

I just found out about 30 Days of Creativity from another Word Press blog. I’m thinking of joining it, or doing something like it. But I would like to work out my regular school schedule first to ensure I have enough time for everything.

On that note, I consulted with a friend about wether or not I should blog about the readings I’m taking up for my classes. He said it would be a good exercise in writing, and might help in my studies. So I’m also sitting on that idea. If so there may be more academic writing here.

As a renaissance soul it would help me integrate my life more, but as a blog it would take away from being a niche. And niche is what generates traffic. I dont have much traffic to begin with though so it might be a beneficial practice. I apologize then, for the double posting on here and my crafting blog. I will be keeping them separate now. So on my long discourse with myself here, I finally have a decision.  Keep them separate.

I will have to adjust my pages a bit but for now, I have to go read.

So another thing to be annoyed about… is Enlistment. Getting your classes written down, hoping there are slots left, messy lines with questionable order. Ah… Bureaucracy. One thing I won’t miss about school when I’m done.

God gives me patience and everything I need so I trust all will go well. But for now, I’m in a line that started since 7am.

And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 ASV

So… i went through the process of deciding on a new blog, and got the domain but never got on to posting. I just really want to consider my long term goals, and i dont know how much i can write or compile about culinary endeavors without posting about crafting. Its best to be specific in blogging you see, to have a niche to fill. On one end its good for traffic, and on the other its the best way to generate valued content – if its uncommon. But i really dont want to maintain more than one blog. though it is an idea to have a personal one and a more objective, professional type one.

school has kept me busy, as well as Charlaine Harris‘s Southern Vampire Mysteries. I got the 10 books in audiobook form and knitted away. My favorite is book 4. Five scarves later, i feel a bit distracted from food blogging.

So im thinking of scraping my food blog idea, and going to a new one. Something about making hpomemade versions of commercial products, your own bread, jam, condiments spice mixes. Ofcourse food and crafting too. So this homemade, from scratch idea is still floating in my head. Andwhat if i want to bog about reading ?

I have many interests, and enjoy learning how to do and make things. So i want to make a command center type blog where i can put all of this down. I’m open to suggestions.

So it’s been decided…

27 Jan

I’m setting up a food blog, and its still under construction with all that red tape. This will be a personal blog, where i think, write down accomplishments; hobbies mostly, and maybe some mundane life stuff here and there.

In the process of building up another blog i came across these:
Background fairy provides *free* backgrounds and headers (which can probably be used as stock too, but check the owners creative commons license first!). They are truly lovely, mostly antique and have that well traveled and slightly worn victorian-ish feel, which i LOVE ! So if youre due an update, go have a look.
Simply chic blogs does the same but have more contemporary and bold designs. Shabby Blogs is also a good stop for backgrounds, but they also have stamps, headers and blinkies. The coffee shop blog has some nice advice for and tips for editing your blogger blog. the author also puts up a few images that can be used at your blog, also for free. So have a look around and enjoy !
